Our campus beehives\, along with pollinator-friendly trees\, shrubs\, perennials\, and ground covers are one way that BCIT supports sustainability and enhances natural spaces on campus. \nOn World Bee Day we’re celebrating these powerful pollinators with a special event. \n\n  \n12:30 – 1:30 pm: Learn more about pollinators and their role at BCIT. We will be building solitary bee habitats out of logs harvested from BCIT projects\, and making bat boxes to be installed on campus. \n\nLocation: Townsquare D\n\n1:30 – 2:30 pm: Join us on a walk to the south end of campus to learn more about rewilded and restored  areas of BCIT that support pollinators. \n\nStarting from Townsquare D\n\nJoin us for one or both of these activities. If you are only joining us for the walk please make sure to arrive at Town Square D by 1:30. Please help us out by registering\, so we have enough supplies for everyone to take part in the activity. You can also register for just the walk. Hands-on exploration\, sketching and analysis\, will allow the student to explore and apply the elements and principles of design\, developing an awareness of its application within our environment. Theories pertaining to human factors will be explored including proxemics\, anthropometrics and ergonomics. Students will work individually and in groups to create 2D and 3D solutions\, presenting their ideas to their peers.\n\n\n\n  \n\nINTD 2120 Fabrics & Applications (2 credits)\n\nThis course will cover fibres and fabrics as they apply to residential interior design. Characteristics of natural and synthetic fibres will be explored. Through lectures\, field trips\, and assignments\, topics such as fibre and/or fabric identification\, properties\, construction\, application\, specifications\, testing\, estimating\, and sustainability will be covered.\n\n\n\n  \nThe courses will be offered in a hybrid format: \n\nINTD 1100 (3 credits) over 6 weeks (Saturdays in person at RRU and weekday evenings online)\n1  week break\nINTD 2120 (2 credits) over 4 weeks.\n\n  \nThe idea is that these courses could then potentially ladder into an Associate Certificate: \n  \nFALL 2026 OFFERINGS: \n\nINTD 1100 Design Theory (3 credits)\nINTD 2120 Fabrics & Applications (2 credits)\n\nWINTER 2027 OFFERINGS: \n\nINTD 1120 Materials (3 credits)\nINTD 1140 Freehand Drawing -(2.5 credits)\nINTD 1180 Visual Communication 2D (3 credits)\n\nSPRING 2027 OFFERINGS: \n\nINTD 2130 Colour for ID (3 credits)\nINTD 2150 Visual & Graphic Communication (3 credits)\nINTD 2300 Res Studio A (3 credits)\n\n\nTotal credits 22.5 credits\n\n  \nThe hybrid format works great for design students: \n\nStudio-based learning benefits from physical presence: In-person sessions support hands-on making\, material exploration\, critiques\, and spontaneous peer learning that are central to design education.\nOnline delivery enhances flexibility and reflection: Recorded lectures\, digital demonstrations\, and asynchronous discussions allow students to review complex concepts\, work at their own pace\, and manage studio time more effectively.\nHybrid models mirror professional practice: Designers regularly collaborate across physical and digital environments\, using online platforms alongside in-person meetings.\nSupports diverse learning needs and UDL principles: Offering multiple modes of engagement (live\, recorded\, visual\, tactile) increases accessibility and inclusivity for different learning styles and life circumstances.\nMaximizes quality studio time: Foundational content can be delivered online\, freeing in-person sessions for critiques\, mentorship\, collaboration\, and problem-solving where instructor feedback has the greatest impact.\n\nJoin our free online info session to learn about courses\, format\, and how to apply.
